Equipment Operator—Entry Level

The City of Centerville is accepting applications for the full-time position of Entry Level Equipment Operator. The Public Works Department provides service-oriented functions for the City of Centerville including, but not limited to, engineering; street maintenance, including resurfacing and snow and ice control; building maintenance; horticultural maintenance; leaf collection; and waste and recycling collection. The Public Works Department strives to deliver exceptional services through thoughtful governance to ensure progress and stability.

Position Responsibilities: Under supervision of the Public Works Supervisor and working under the direction of a crew leader, performs snow removal and ice control on roadways, sidewalks, and parking lots; repairs and patches streets, sidewalks and curbs, rebuilds street inlets and catch basins; assists with waste and recycling collections; assists in installing, maintaining, and removal of lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers in and around City property including edging, mulching, pruning, fertilizing, watering, grading, seeding, sowing sod, aerating, applying insecticides and herbicides, and mowing; straighten and replace city signs; install and paint barricades; service trucks and other equipment as needed; assists on brush clipping crew, leaf collection, and roadside and park clean up; operates compressor, crack sealer, motorized grounds maintenance equipment, and other motorized equipment with and without trailers; demonstrates regular and predictable attendance; upholds the City’s mission, vision, and values.

Minimum Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds at least a distance of 30 yards; high school diploma or equivalent; two years of experience of working outdoors; experience performing general maintenance work; a valid Ohio Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment; ability to work 10-hour days (40 hours/week) plus overtime as required. The City’s Equipment Operator Training Program must be successfully completed within 36 months of hire date as a condition of continued employment.
